From Montenegro to Ljubljana for 94 €

Hello! It's us again, with the cheap plane tickets. I'm sure you've missed us. I know Montenegro is a beautiful country, but so is Slovenia. And now you can fly to Ljubljana from Podgorica and back for only 94 € with Montenegro Airlines in September. I think that’s a great deal, don’t you? The flight will last only an hour and boom! You can be in the beautiful Slovenian capital.

You can see a lot in Ljubljana. It is one of the smaller European capitals, but it sure has its charm. For an introduction to Ljubljana, I’d suggest that you read this article, which will tell you a little more about the city. Now, what to do? If you are a foodie and live for the little great tastes, then check Ljubljana’s Open Kitchen in the middle of the city centre, where a lot of Slovenian restaurants come and cook their food. And if you’re still hungry, check out this article for more advice on what to visit and is food related.

While strolling through the city centre, you can not miss the statue of France Prešeren, Slovenian great poet and the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation on the Prešeren Square or Prešernov trg. In front of the church is the famous Triple Bridge that crosses over Ljubljanica river and a little further the Dragon Bridge for a little Game of Thrones vibe.

If you’ll take a stroll by Ljubljanica or even take a boat and ride on the Ljubljanica, you will be able to enjoy some ice cream or a cup of great coffee. Maybe even visit an old bookshop with used books or just explore, sit by the river and enjoy in the view. You can also visit the Ljubljana Castle. It is on the hill and it’s visible from the city centre, but don’t worry, the stroll to the castle is short and not tiring at all. And if you want something adventurous for the end of your trip, try Mindmaze in the city centre and try your mind.

@Author - Author - Nea Culpa; www.slovenia.info
I’m sure you’re at least a little curious about Ljubljana by now, so I have a few suggestions for the hostels you can pick. Ready? Ok. The first suggestion is Vila Veselova in the city centre with all the main sights close by. And for something quirky and a little bit different, there is Youth Hostel Tresor, which was once a bank vault. They have turned it into a hip hostel, which offers comfort and fun events, furthermore the location could not be more central. If you want to be a little more outside of the city, I’d recommend Hostel Ljubljana, which is great for sports enthusiasts since it offers a wide range of activities. Come and visit Ljubljana.

From Berlin to Venice for 50 €

You probably already know that Ryanair always offers great flights. But did you know that you can fly from Berlin to Venice in July for only 50 euros? And that’s for a return flight. From there, you can come and visit beautiful Slovenia and discover its treasures.

@Author - Julia Wesely; www.slovenia.info
What treasures, you ask me? Well, if you haven’t checked out the blog Say HI to Alpe Adria, please do, because it has some amazing travelogues and will surprise you on what we have to offer. And if you’re reading this blog, you’re already on the right track as you can find a lot of suggestions here. Right now we can boast with already twelve baby dragons in Postojna Cave, which is a little miracle. Our volunteer Katja Kovič also wrote a great post about Coastal Slovenia, where she writes about Koper, Ankaran and Strunjan and there is more to come. Even Huffington Post wrote about beautiful Piran and they also said that it seems that the sun always shines in Piran. You have to see for yourself.

@Author - Ubald Trnkoczy, www.slovenia.info
The Alps are also very beautiful with its valleys and snowy hills but if you want to really admire the landscape, visit Logarska Valley, which is one of Europe’s most beautiful glacial alpine valleys. There you will find the untouched nature, traditional wood houses, hay barns and even the highest lying farm in Slovenia. Logarska Valley is a regional park because of numerous species of plants, including some really rare ones. The oldest traces of human habitations lead back to Paleolithic era, which is quite amazing. Ok, enough about the nature, what about the food? Well, if you don’t come here because of food, I don’t know what’s wrong. You will find soups, salamis, potica cake, trout and even more delicious food. Is your mouth watering? Well, it should. Learn more about the Logarska Valley and see for yourself.

@Author - Tomo Jeseničnik; www.slovenia.info
If you’re worrying about where you’re going to sleep, don’t. In Logarska Valley you will find the hostel Ljubno ob Savinji, which offers all kinds of accommodation. And if we convinced you with our coastal region, check out hostel Histria, a renovated building in the centre of Koper.

From Malta to Venice for 50 euros

We all know that Malta is beautiful and that it's a paradise for people who love the sea. But let me give you a hint. Slovenia is beautiful too. And now you can fly to Italian Venice and back for around 50 euros with Ryanair and then come and visit Slovenia. See, I already have all figured out.

@Author - Nea Culpa; www.slovenia.info
I’m here, now what? You ask me. Well, this blog offers you a lot of attractions and places that you can visit and have a great time. I would recommend you to also visit the blog HI Alpe Adria, where you’ll find a lot of interesting things. But if you’re really coming from Malta, maybe stay away from the coast and visit the mountains. Here are top 3 towns in Carniola to visit:

Bohinj Igor Fabjan, our volunteer wrote that this beautiful valley was a gift from God and this is where Bohinj got the name from (boh means god in Slovenian dialect). Bohinj Lake is part of the Triglav National Park and is a paradise for everyone who wants an active holiday. The mountain tops offer hiking opportunities, you can swim in the lake in the summer months, you can go rock climbing, canyoning or even parachute flying. Need I say more? If yes, read this blog.

@Author - Nea Culpa; www.slovenia.info
Bled is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Slovenia. Lake Bled is probably one of the most well renowned sights in the country and it’s why people know Slovenia. A couple of kilometres away, you can visit the glacier valley Vintgar, which was discovered in 1981 and is still unspoiled and really beautiful. You can read more about Bled and its attractions here.

@Author -  Franci Ferjan; www.slovenia.info
Radovljica is a little bit further from the actual mountains but the town sure has a charm. Anton Tomaž Linhart, the first Slovenian playwright was born here, and the Linhart Square is the spot for many events in Radovljica today. The locals may tell you, that nothing really happens in Radovljica, but just wait and see or do a short research on the internet and prove them wrong. Every year there is a chocolate festival in Radovljica, and the city is also the host of international festival of street theatre Ana Desetnica. Again, you can read more about the town, Bled, Bohinj and what they offer here.

@Author - Miran Kambič; www.slovenia.info
Of course, you will find some hostels around here. Hostel Bledec is situated near the centre of Bled beneath the Bled Castle. Hostel Pod Voglom is perfect for groups and is located by the Lake Bohinj. It’s also a perfect starting point for sporting activities. And in Radovljica, there is a special hostel Youth Hostel Radovljica in the Vidič House, which was once an old renaissance castle.

Book a summer vacation in Slovenia

It seems like yesterday was the winter and now it’s already summer. Where is this time going? Anyways, do you have plans for this summer? If not, I’d recommend you to visit Slovenia. It’s a beautiful country with lots to offer and some really nice hostel to welcome you. Just visit us and see.

@Author - Turizem Bohinj; www.slovenia.info
If you’re hesitating, check out our HI Slovenia blog, where you will find some tips on what to visit and some cheap plane tickets to Slovenia (or nearby countries). Or you can visit blog HI Alpe Adria since Slovenia is a part of the region and read some interesting articles about Slovenia. Now let me introduce you some hostels, where you can stay.

@Youth Hostel Slovenj Gradec
Hostel Slovenj Gradec is located on the left bank of Suhadolnica river and is a part of the Cultural centre Slovenj Gradec. It offers modern rooms with up to four beds and four apartment suites that offer accommodation for three, four or eight people and a kitchen. Slovenj Gradec is a small town, but it has great history. It has remained connected with its history and culture. Hostel Idrija waits for you on a little hill above the city so you immediately get a great view on the city. Don’t worry, a walk to the city centre will take you only five minutes so you won’t be cut out from the city. If you’ll come in the summer and will want to cool down, I can recommend a tourist mine, which is included on the UNESCO list of World Cultural and Natural Heritage. After a presentation, you will put on your helmet and an overcoat and discover the underground of Idrija. How fascinating!

@Author - Jani Peternelj; www.visit-idrija.si
The next is the hostel Pekarna in Maribor, which is also part of the cultural centre. The hostel lies in a building, which used to be a bakery, built at the turn of the century by the Austro-Hungarian army. It is wholly renovated and modernly designed and offers seven rooms with four beds or you can book studio apartment or suites. I may be a little biased since Maribor is my hometown, but it is truly a wonderful city. You can read some interesting things in the article Let’s Visit Maribor. Hostel Bovec is in the centre of Bovec, a small town in Slovenia, located between high mountains and famous Soča river. It is a big hostel with a fully equipped kitchen and even a garage. It is perfect for adrenalin adventures on the Soča river or for hiking, swimming, anything your mind can wish for. And if that doesn’t impress you, maybe check out the story of the hostel and its fun owners.

@Author - Domen Grögl; www.slovenia.info
If you prefer the sea, go to Izola and visit hostel Alieti, which is a quiet hostel in the city centre. They offer 25 beds and lots of charm. Our volunteer Nastja wrote a little more about the hostel and the people running it. Izola also offers a lot of charm. Just sit by the sea, listen to some music and enjoy in good sea-food. Believe me, there are a lot of things to try and experience.

@Author - P.Hieng; www.slovenia.info
And last but not least, there is hostel Tresor in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. The building was once a bank vault and it was transformed into a modern hostel. The hostel has 29 rooms, which are named after world currencies. It is a step away from the Prešeren Square, Dragon Bridge and Ljubljana Castle. Lots to see and lots to experience!

By train from Vienna to Ljubljana (Slovenia) for 24 Euros

Are you backpacking through Europe? Have you thought about visiting Slovenia? You can visit it from beautiful Vienna by a train and soon you’ll arrive to Ljubljana for only 24 euros if you book your train soon enough. Check the Austrian website Oebb and book your train to the beautiful green country.

@Author - Arhiv ZTKMŠ Brda, www.slovenia.info
Maybe you already explored Austria and its cities. Did you know that Austria is a part of Alpe-Adria region and that you can find some really interesting articles about some Austrian places on our website HI Alpe Adria? But Slovenia is also a part of that region and you can see some beautiful places here also. For example, did you know that you can find Proteus in Postojna cave and that it laid 57 eggs just recently? Now the eggs are at watch and we are patiently waiting for the new proteus’.

@Author - Miha Krivic, www.slovenia.info
Or I can recommend you a visit to Brežice, where a festival will be held on 24th of June and there are a lot of fun things to do. For example, there will be the 6th Castle Antique Market or you can visit it on Museum Day on 26th of June. If you’ll visit it in July, you will have a chance to meet Primož Kozmus or dance with Parni Valjak or Alya. You will definitely not be disappointed. If you fancy a little adventure, there is a wake park, where you can go waking, surfing or suping. Or take a stroll through the city centre and listen to the dwarf-squirrel Gvido. Intrigued? I know I am! Of course the season of festivals doesn’t end here. Kranj, a city near Ljubljana also offers a lot of fun and they even made a list of the top nine events you cannot miss. I recommend you Kranfest, which happens every late July since 1982. Now that’s what I call tradition. If you’re a sports enthusiast, you will also be happy to hear that the national championship in beach volleyball will also happen in that time.

@Author - Mankica; www.slovenia.info
If you’ll decide to visit young eggs of proteus, you can stay in Postojna at Youth Hostel Proteus (ha, even the name is convenient) in the middle of the park, near the Postojna cave and the second biggest attraction in Postojna, castle Predjamski Grad. And if you take my advice on visiting Brežice, you can stay in Youth Hostel MC Brežice and have fun on a festival. And if you choose Kranj (but I am saying, why not both?), you can stay at Youth Hostel Kranj. Just come and have fun. Enjoy in great beer and even better atmosphere.
