Endless Activities in Slovenia

Autumn is coming and you still want to go somewhere? Why wouldn't you visit our beautiful Slovenia? I promise you won’t be sorry and that you will see some beautiful things. Slovenia is an amazing place that offers a lot of activities and things that you won’t see anywhere else. So here are some suggestions.

@Author - Matej Vranič;
Have you ever heard of Velika Planina? Well, it’s a beautiful place near a town Kamnik. Kamnik is located near river Kamniška Bistrica, which gives a special character to the nature. But most importantly, Kamnik is located near Kamnik-Savinja Alps that are a true fairy tale. That is also the place where you can find Velika Planina and I promise you, you will be amazed. You will find a well preserved shepherd’s huts (where you can also stay) that are one of the few settlements of this size in Europe. If you want to stay a little longer in Kamnik, choose hostel Pod Skalco in the centre of Kamnik.

Region Koroška is often forgotten in our beautiful Slovenia. If you want a quieter vacation in the middle of nature, then you can choose hostel Punkl in Ravne na Koroškem. It is the first Slovenian youth hostel that has low-energy consuming structure and is in line with natural and bioclimatic characteristics of its surroundings. If you want to do some activities in the nature, you’ve come to the right place. You can go hiking, cycling, mountain climbing and even rafting. In case of bad weather, sports park Ravne is just around the corner so you certainly won’t get bored. If you’re a keen hiker, maybe choose Uršlja gora where you’ll get an amazing view.

@Author - Dunja Wedam;
Slovenia is also known for thermal water and amazing spas. Prekmurje is another forgotten region where you truly are in the middle of nowhere. But there’s a charm in that. If you want to try out some of the Slovenian spas, visit Radenci and their spa. You will definitely be more relaxed after a day, spent in the bubbles. And if you want to spend more days there, relaxing and pampering yourself, stay at Youth Hostel Radenci, which is surrounded by fields and vineyards by Mura river.

@Author - Mirko Kunšič;
And exploring the nature continues. Youth Hostel Menina is part of the camp Menina in the Upper Savinja Valley in Rečica ob Savinji. The hostel is by river Savinja that can be quite warm in the summer, so try jumping in and refresh yourself. Hikers are never disappointed in Slovenia. Here you can go hiking in the valley Menina or visit Logar Valley that will definitely leave a mark in your memory.

Let’s jump to the sea. Yes, Slovenia also has a sea coast. Here are 7 reasons to stay in Debeli rtič in a lovely town Ankaran. Slovenian coast has lots of charm and lovely old cities where you can eat amazing food and drink delicious wine. You simply must try Slovenian prosciutto, it’s just great. And if you want to know more about the Slovenian coast, check out this article that presents all of the Slovenian sea-side towns.

Last but certainly not least suggestion is Bled. Bled is the Slovenian jewel and something that almost every tourist visits on their trip to Slovenia. It definitely offers various activities and beautiful views on every step. Because it’s a tourist city, the prices can also be a bit high, so you can sleep at hostel Bledec and you won’t break your budget. But it’s definitely worth. The hostel lies under the castle and is a great starting point for discovering the area. They also arrange guided tours to the most beautiful areas at Triglav national park or you can rent a bike and see Bled for yourself. The choice is yours.

Visit Slovenia, explore its beauties and be amazed.

Slovenia is also the only country, which lies completely in Alpe-Adria region. Never heard of it? Go to Alpe-Adria website and choose activities by your liking. December in Slovenia will bring you lots of activities. You can check out Christmas lights in every big city, Ljubljana, Maribor or Koper and be amazed by the charm. Don’t forget to buy a cup of mulled wine or hot chocolate. Take a look of what you can do in Ljubljana in December. If you don’t know where to stay, then hostel Ljubljana won’t disappoint you with their price and quality.

@Author - Mankica;
Do you want more winter activities? If you’re a keen skier, then have no fear. Slovenia offers great places to ski, snowboard and whatever else you do on snow. Kranjska Gora is a ski centre under the Julian Alps. Close is Nordic Centre Planica, the home of ski jumping with a ski jumping hill that was the longest in the world for a long time. You can visit Planica Museum or try Planica Zipline. On the outskirts of the Triglav National Park is Hostel Barovc that will kindly welcome every visitor and is a great starting point for every adrenalin enthusiast.

@Author - Matevž Lenarčič;
If you want more choice for skiing places, maybe choose Maribor and its Pohorje. Maribor itself is amazing and worth visiting but if you include skiing on Pohorje, the trip will be great. If you want to get to know Maribor a little better, read the article Let’s visit Maribor where you’ll get to know everything you need for a start. Maribor is a great starting point for skiing. Pohorje offers great ski slopes and there are lots of other things to do. It is a university city, so there will be great parties, great people and great wine always on your hand. If you want to be in the centre of the city, find an accommodation at Youth Hostel UNI. And if you want something more quiet and calm, try a hostel near Maribor, in a town Ruše that offers a lot of other activities and even fitness and table tennis for days when it’s raining and you can’t really do anything else. Youth Hostel Ruše will be happy to see you.

From Munich to Ljubljana for 38€

We're sure that you've already heard of Flixbus. They offer cheap bus transportation across Europe and now you can get from Munich, Germany, to Ljubljana and back for only 38€. If that’s not a great price, I don’t know what is.

@Author - Turizem Bohinj;
Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia and offers many beautiful things. It has a beautiful castle with a great view on the city and a great vibe with all the coffee shops and quirky little stores. It’s a home to thousands of students and that is why it also offers quite some parties that you wouldn’t want to miss if you’re a party animal. But if you’re more quiet and interested in culture, it has a theatre, an opera and many other cultural events that you can attend while visiting. If you’re looking for an accommodation in Ljubljana, look for hostel Tresor in the city centre, that was once a bank vault and was turned into a hostel but still kept its history. Rooms are now named after different currencies.

Public transportation in Slovenia can be a bit slow but don’t let that put you off visiting other cities. Bled and Bohinj are a must see with the Triglav National Park and beautiful lakes and mountains (I recommend visiting Vintgar gorge). You can stay in hostel Bledec in Bled just under the castle and only a few steps away from the lake Bled.

@Author -  Franci Ferjan;
The Slovenian coast is charming with the small cities and narrow streets. And the great thing is that it won’t take you forever to travel. You can be on the other side of Slovenia in three to five hours. My favourite city on the coast is definitely Izola, a small and quiet city with lots of charm and chances to take beautiful photos. There you can stay at hostel Alieti and enjoy the quiet environment near the sea. It’s almost therapeutic. If you want some advice on what to see, maybe read Nastja’s travelogue that will unravel Izola’s beauty. After reading that, you’ll know that you have to check it out for yourself.

@Author -  Franci Ferjan;
But if you’re a party animal, maybe choose Portorož where all the touristic buzz happens. Don’t forget to have a scoop of ice cream at Cacao where you’ll be amazed at their offer. If you still need an hour or two of sleep, choose Youth Hostel Portorož and get your energy for the next night. Excited?

@Author-Ubald Trnkoczy;
If you’re still not sure on what to visit, check out the article Slovenia and its Beauty. Now I know you’re convinced. The bus is cheap, hostels also won’t break your wallet and Slovenian beauties are waiting. Take a chance and visit Slovenia.
